The Bulls, Knicks and Hornets are good. Baggy pants are back. So are hard fouls. Green Day, wake up. It’s your time again.
Sure, we could focus on the Los Angeles Lakers barely beating the Houston Rockets. We could look at the fact that they could very easily still be looking for their first win. We could mention in passing that the defense is about as effective as a Southern California stop sign.
But what fun would all that be? So, instead of worrying or even thinking about those and other valid questions you might have about the Lakers, you should listen to the glee in the voices of myself and this week’s guest on “The Anthony Irwin Show” as we figure out that the NBA might have incidentally brought the 90s back.
For those interested in more of a recap of the game, that is how I open the show and also today’s Lowdown offers more insight into that, but given how much fun it was to talk to Trey, I wanted to ramble as little as possible.
We started our conversation with Alex Caruso, who has singlehandedly lifted the Chicago Bulls in ways no other player in that franchise’s history ever has. Trey said that Caruso has not only gotten MVP chants from the Bulls crowd, but said afterward that he’s apparently used to such a thing. Nothing but respect for the luxury tax gawd.
From there, we discussed what Trey thinks of the Lakers and this NBA season in general, how the league has evolved over the time he’s spent covering it, the aforementioned 90s revival, and an unfortunate record he and I apparently have in common.
