Malik Monk is coming off his best year as a pro. Can he continue that momentum with the Lakers?
With training camp soon on the horizon, the Lakers and their fans will finally get their first glimpses of the retooled roster. Beyond the likes of seeing Russell Westbrook don the purple and gold for the first time, and keeping an eagle’s eye on how every new player meshes, one of the most interesting participants the team added is not a grizzled veteran, but a 23-year-old.
When Malik Monk signed with the Lakers in the offseason, he did so with little fanfare. There was next to no reporting that linked the parties together, nor were there any rumblings of potential interest from anyone else in the league.
Despite the modest deal he ultimately inked, Monk joins the team fresh off the best season of his career. And by hopefully putting aside what was a tumultuous tenure with the Hornets, Monk can also potentially rejuvenate his stock in Los Angeles. Which brings us to today’s episode.
To help fans get a better understanding of a Monk as a player and person ahead of the training camp, the guys over at Talk-O-Tuesday kicked off our season preview series by welcoming Jacob Rude (who, along with Christian Rivas, hosts “Can U Dig It” on this very podcast feed) to the podcast to discuss all things Monk, as well as give their thoughts on his potential role with the team.
And for a short-form recap pod, check out Lakers Lowdown, in which Anthony Irwin recaps the previous day’s news and gets you ready for the day ahead in LakerLand, every weekday morning on the Silver Screen & Roll Podcast feed.
