The Lakers look tired, and understandably so.
It’s been a long season for the Lakers. Not only have they been expected to perform at a high level after a short offseason, but they’ve had to do it without their two star forwards, LeBron James and Anthony Davis, for long stretches of the year. They haven’t had it easy.
And yet, with 16 games left in the 2020-21 season, the Lakers are the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference, and have a three-game cushion between them and the No. 7 seed, the latter of which which would trigger a play-in game for them. The question now is: Do they have enough gas to finish the season strong? That’s the center of this week’s episode of “I Love Basketball,” — a podcast by Silver Screen and Roll — with co-hosts Sabreena Merchant and Christian Rivas.
Before they get into that, though, they briefly talked abut the Lakers’ 121-113 loss to the Boston Celtics, which nearly ended in a Lakers win led by Talen Horton-Tucker, Ben McLemore, Alfonzo McKinnie, Kostas Antetokounmpo and Devontae Cacok.
After that, they discussed the Lakers’ many ailments, and whether or not the return of Anthony Davis will allow head coach Frank Vogel to give the guys in the middle of the rotation some much-needed rest. Davis was cleared to resume all on-court activities shortly before tip-off on Thursday, and should return to games within the next week or so.
Finally, they wrapped up the show with a preview of the road ahead for the Lakers, and whether or not they can avoid a play-in game.
