On Tuesday afternoon, the Los Angeles Lakers added one of the biggest names in the sport to their roster: Carmelo Anthony.
LeBron James and his longtime friend and rival are finally on the same team. The move completes a comment LeBron made in 2016 saying he wished he could play alongside Chris Paul, Melo and Dwyane Wade.
LeBron said he would even take a pay cut to make it happen. In the end, he didn’t have to take a pay cut, but at least he finally has the opportunity to play with one of his friends.
“I really hope that, before our career is over, we can all play together,” LeBron said years ago. “At least one, maybe one or two seasons—me, Melo, D-Wade, CP—we can get a year in. I would actually take a pay cut to do that.”

Fans, of course, couldn’t help but notice that the Lakers aren’t getting any younger with the move. LeBron and Carmelo are both in closer to 40 than they are to 30 – as fans noted.
Here’s how fans reacted to the news.

Other fans pointed out that LeBron and Melo have been facing off against each other since they were in high school. Nearly 20 years later, they’re finally on the same team.

The Lakers bowed out of the playoffs earlier than they would have liked to last season. However, the team re-tooled by adding Russell Westbrook and a few others key free agents.
