Game Two Recap: Lakers take 2-0 lead over the Heat

ORLANDO, FL – SEPTEMBER 30: LeBron James #23 of the Los Angeles Lakers and Anthony Davis #3 of the Los Angeles Lakers react during Game One of the NBA Finals on September 30, 2020 at the AdventHealth Arena at ESPN Wide World Of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. The Los Angeles Lakers were able to stave off the Miami Heat in a win, 124-114. Tonight’s win marks the first time that LeBron James has been up 2-0 on a Finals opponent. He finished the night as the leading scorer with 33 points along with nine assists and rebounds. Anthony Davis also put up 32 points and 14 rebounds, his second consecutive Finals performance of 30 points.

Contrasting Factors

The Lakers attempted 47 three-pointers tonight setting an NBA Finals record. Despite the high volume, they only hit 34 percent of them compared to game one where they finished at 39.5 percent. The paint is where they found a way to get tonight’s win. They outscored the Heat 56-46 in the paint, flexing their size.

Free-Throws Not So Free

The Heat got to the line 34 times against the Lakers and nailed 91.2 percent of their free-throws. The Lakers only made 17 trips and finished shooting 58.8 percent from the stripe. The Lakers will have to tighten up these opportunities to put this series away. A deficit that big will not always be on their side.

Anthony Davis Does It Again

Sensational. Brilliant. Exceptional. He was everything. The Brow scored 15 points in the third quarter to keep the Lakers afloat. Most players show the jitters of their first time playing at the highest stakes, but not AD. He’s shifting the narrative about who’s the best player in the league.
