Ever since Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, fans all over the world have gone crazy about the team. The Lakers have always been a popular franchise, and now they have a global star at age 25 and LeBron James. Add in Austin Reaves, and we have a big three. Fans of the team have been looking for a good nickname for the new Lakers’ big three, and they might have found the sweetest.
Fans Have a Sweet Nickname for Lakers’ New Big Three
We cannot say for sure where the nickname originated. It might be Reddit, Twitter, or some other social platform. But someone has dubbed LeBron, Luka, and Reaves the “reverse Oreo”. That might be the sweetest nickname for these three.
James’ teams have a history of nicknames, and in the last several years, he has mostly played in trios. He had a big three in Miami and another one in Cleveland. He and Anthony Davis were a duo in LA before Reaves improved his play and joined them as the third star on the team. The reverse Oreo is definitely a nickname that will stick for a while. It might be the funniest nickname for a basketball trio.
Can Reaves, Luka, and LeBron Work Together?
Luka’s Lakers debut was against the Utah Jazz, and statistically, he, LeBron, and Reaves were incredible. Yet, two nights later, they lost to the same Utah Jazz. The three will work on their chemistry as the season moves along, but they do not have much time. Before Luka’s debut for the Lakers, LeBron clearly talked about who would run the show. He said,
“I don’t really see a challenge. Everybody gets in the right spots, holds each other accountable, plays basketball the right way, shares the ball. The ball is going to be in Luka’s hands, it’s going be in AR’s hands; two great decision-makers. It’ll be in my hands a little bit as well, another great decision-maker. Then our guys are going to feast off of us. I mean, that’s a beautiful thing.”
The challenge for JJ Redick as the head coach will be to make sure every player feels comfortable. LeBron and Luka are ball-dominant, triple-threat players. James has developed an ability to play off the ball in recent years, and Luka has shared the floor with Kyrie Irving. He also played alongside Goran Dragic for the Slovenian national team. Reaves might have the hardest time adjusting to the new role.
Remembering Great Trios
We are talking about nicknames for great trios today, so let’s revisit some popular trios that have dominated the NBA. Some of these won a championship, others were iconic for their playstyle. In any case, here are some amazing trios and their nicknames.
- Lob City, the Clippers with DeAndre Jordan, Blake Griffin, and Chris Paul.
- The Heatles, the Miami Heat, when LeBron and Chris Bosh joined Dwyane Wade.
- Showtime Lakers, probably the most iconic team with Magic Johnson, James Worthy, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
- Run TMC, the high-scoring trio of Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond, and Chris Mullin.
- The Foreign Legion, the Spurs bench in the 2010s, was composed of Manu Ginobili, Boris Diaw, Marco Bellineli, Patty Mills, Cory Joseph, and Aron Baynes.
