UPDATE:

Before tonight’s game against the Miami Heat, Frank Vogel said Dennis Schröder will miss at least the next two games after tonight’s (per Harrison Faigen of Silver Screen & Roll). That will keep Schröder out until at least next Friday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Frank Vogel says that Dennis Schröder will miss at least the next two games after tonight.

“We’ll see after that.”

Original story:

The Los Angeles Lakers did not need any additional absences from their team following the scare Anthony Davis gave everyone with his Achilles. Davis will be out for approximately four weeks, with the Lakers possibly having another multi-game absence from one of their best players in Dennis Schröder.

He was a late scratch against the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday, with the scratch being so late that Frank Vogel was telling reporters how excited he was to see Schröder against Kyrie Irving as close as an hour to tip-off. Schröder missed the game due to being put into health and safety protocols, something we’re just going to have to accept in light of the NBA pushing through this season amongst the COVID-19 pandemic. He will continue to be out against the Miami Heat tonight, as Frank Vogel gave the following update after their Friday practice (per Harrison Faigen of Silver Screen & Roll):

“It’s still uncertain what the timeline is going to look like. For now all I can really tell you is that due to health and safety protocols he’s still out. He was not here at practice today and there is no timeline,” Vogel said.

Pressed on if there was a chance Schröder could play against the Heat, Vogel doubled down.

“There’s no timeline. That’s still uncertain,” Vogel said.

This is only the second time that a player on the Lakers has been held out due to health and safety protocols, as the same happened to Alex Caruso earlier in this season. Caruso was put into the protocols (not as a late scratch) after someone he came into close contact with had tested positive (per Silver Screen & Roll). He missed five games because of it, as we may see the same with Dennis Schröder. It might be even longer if Schröder actually tested positive, which may be the case considering how much of a surprise the designation was at the time.
