Carmelo Anthony Has Message For Fans After Signing With Lakers

August 4, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Portland Trail Blazers stars Carmelo Anthony and Damian Lillard during game.

Carmelo Anthony has found a new home in the NBA. The future Hall of Famer will team up with Anthony Davis, LeBron James and Russell Westbrook in Los Angeles for the 2021-22 season.

Before he embraces the Lakers and their passionate fan base, Anthony put together a farewell message for the Portland Trail Blazers.

In 2019, the Trail Blazers signed Anthony to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal. They were the first team to take a chance on him after his fallout with the Houston Rockets, and that’s something Anthony won’t ever forget.

“Thank you Portland, for letting me love the game of basketball again,” Anthony wrote. “Thank you for welcoming me into your community, and supporting me both on the court and in your city. These two years were some of the most important ones of my career, and for that I’ll always be grateful.”

Portland fans will miss watching Anthony next season, that’s for sure.

Anthony has been a key role player for the Trail Blazers over the past two seasons, averaging 14.3 points per game. Now, he’ll have the chance to be one of the top performers off the bench for the Lakers

More importantly, Anthony has the opportunity to finally win an NBA championship. That’s pretty much the only thing missing from his Hall of Fame résumé.

Los Angeles is currently considered the favorite to win the Western Conference next season.
