The Los Angeles Lakers are losing their starting point guard from the 2019-20 season. Avery Bradley has signed a two-year deal worth $11.6 million with the Miami Heat, according to the Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Bradley, who did not play in the postseason for the Lakers, was reportedly recruited by Heat star Jimmy Butler.
Bradley declined his player option for a second year with the Lakers earlier this week in order to pursue a more lucrative deal in free agency. The Lakers were never reported to enter negotiations to bring him back despite the point guard reportedly giving them “first dibs” at an offer. He was reportedly pursued by several contenders, including the Golden State Warriors and Milwaukee Bucks.
The veteran guard averaged 8.6 points per game in his one year in purple and gold and set the tone on the defensive end early in training camp. It was a resurgence for a player many thought had nothing left after several bouts with injuries.
