Clayton Kershaw appeared in just seven games in the regular season before suffering a bone spur in his big toe that effectively ended his 2024 campaign.
Kershaw took to his Instagram on Thursday to announce that he underwent surgery on both his toe and his knee on Wednesday, and is looking to “crush some rehab and be as good as can be come next year.”
Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register writes more about Kershaw’s recent surgeries.
“There’s a lot of stuff in there,” he said. “I think I ruptured my plantar plate. I think I got a bone spur. I think I got some arthritis. I don’t really know. I’ve got to ask more questions. There’s a lot of stuff that needs to be fixed.”
It is only the second time in his career that he has undergone any surgery, as the 36-year-old left hander underwent a successful shoulder surgery last offseason.
Kershaw is once again a free agent, but expressed his willingness to remain a Dodger. Kershaw, who ranks first in Dodgers franchise history for strikeouts, sits just 32 strikeouts away from eclipsing 3,000 in his career.

It’s now been a week since the Dodgers held their championship parade, where current free agent Teoscar Hernández expressed his gratitude to both the team and Dodgers fans alike. General manager Brandon Gomes talked about the team’s urgency towards bringing back the two-time All-Star, per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times.
“Teo was a huge part of what we accomplished this year,” Gomes said Wednesday at Major League Baseball’s general manager meetings. “On the field, you could see it very clearly. Huge impact in the clubhouse with younger guys, his energy. So we’ll have conversations with Teo and his group ASAP.”
Moving outside of free agency and injury related updates, former Dodger great Steve Garvey’s attempt at holding a position for Senator of California has failed, with Rep. Adam Schiff being elected to fill the vacancy left by Dianne Feinstein after her passing in 2023.
Marissa Wenzke of CBS News has more on Garvey’s unsuccessful campaign.
