“The Dodgers announced their full slate of 32 non-roster invitees to Spring Training. The majority of the group are from the farm system or playing on minor league contracts that had already been reported, but the team revealed a couple unknown names who evidently signed minor league deals. Catcher Seby Zavala and reliever Jordan Weems are among those in camp, according to the team.”

As Franco noted in his piece, Zavala is a 32-year-old right-handed-hitting catcher. The Fort Hood, TX native and five-year MLB veteran was a 12th-round draft pick in 2015 by the Chicago White Sox out of San Diego State University. He went 6-for-39 with the Seattle Mariners in 2024 (his last MLB season), mustering only six hits in 39 at-bats (.154). Although he drew three walks in his 43 plate appearances in 2024, he struck out 16 times, a 41.025% strikeout rate. Career wise, Zavala owns a less-than-stellar slash line of .205/.271/.342/.613 in the 194 MLB games in which he appeared. Of his 497 career at-bats, 200 ended in strikeouts, while drawing 40 walks. That equates to a 40.241% career strikeout rate.

Weems is a 33-year-old right-hander with six MLB seasons under his belt. The Columbus, GA native and third-round draft pick in 2011 by the Boston Red Sox out of Columbus High School went 0-1 with a horrific 14.45 ERA in his 4.1 innings of work with the Houston Astros last season, allowing seven runs on nine hits. Of the 23 opposing batters he faced in 2025, he struck out zero.
