With Friday being a bullpen game, Andre Jackson will likely see a bulk of the innings

The Dodgers will need a pitcher to throw some bulk innings this weekend, it looks as if Andre Jackson will try and do just that. On Friday, the Dodgers recalled Jackson and optioned left-handed pitcher Darien Núñez to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Jackson is expected to see the bulk of the innings tonight, per manager Dave Roberts. He said Jackson could get up to 90 pitches. The plan is for Jackson to follow Brusdar Graterol, who will be the opener for LA tonight.

For Jackson, this will be his second stint with LA, though he’s been with the club this week on their taxi squad. He made his MLB debut on August 16 against the Pirates. He tossed four scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out five while allowing four walks and two hits.

His last pitching appearance actually came last week for the Quakes in Low-A, as the Dodgers wanted to keep him close as opposed to sending him back to Oklahoma City. He tossed 5 2⁄3 innings, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts.

Núñez’s stint with the Dodgers was brief this time around, as he was recalled yesterday as bullpen insurance should LA need it. The lefty has appeared in six games for the Dodgers this season, allowing seven runs in 7 2⁄3 innings.

News and notes

  • Clayton Kershaw threw another bullpen session. According to Roberts it went well. Kershaw still wasn’t throwing at 100 percent, but it was a positive day. The team will see how he feels tomorrow and schedule another pen, likely Monday and wrap up intensity.
  • Max Muncy isn’t in the starting lineup for the second straight game as he continues to deal with a slight back issue. Roberts said Muncy wanted to be in there, but the team is opting to be extra cautious. Muncy will still be available off the bench tonight.
  • As the Dodgers continue to ease Mookie Betts back from the IL, he might start at second base on Saturday.
