On Wednesday, the Dodgers finalized a deal to trade for infielder Miguel Rojas from the Miami Marlins for SS Jacob Amaya, LA’s No. 15 ranked prospect. Rojas, who began his career with the Dodgers in 2014, will shore up the depth in the infield, and bring his elite defense and veteran presence to the club.
Also on Wednesday, Max Muncy joined us here at Dodgers Nation to talk about the offseason, the changes in the locker room and what next season will hold for LA. Muncy joined us shortly after the news of the Rojas deal dropped, and provided some instant analysis on the deal.
Muncy told us he was very excited about the reported deal, and is looking forward to what Rojas will bring to the lineup and clubhouse.
“If that’s true, that’s exciting news, man,” Muncy said. “I’ve heard a lot of good things about Miguel. Playing against him, I’ve always loved his game. He’s a good competitor. It seems like he’s always held a lot of respect from those guys over there in Miami. I think that’s someone that could fit in well with our clubhouse, for sure.”
Rojas has been in the league for nine years, and has established himself as a great veteran and clubhouse presence. Rojas had some struggles at the plate last year, hitting just .236 with an OPS+ of 72. But maybe he’ll be able to put his head together with some of the Dodgers’ sluggers in the clubhouse, and get back to being the .260 hitter he’s been in his career.
It’s always nice when the Dodger front office makes a move that their players are excited about, and Muncy seemed very pleased with the addition. Rojas’ defense will be a huge plus in the field, and it sounds like he’ll fit right in with the rest of the clubhouse.
