Dodgers News: Julio Urias Feeling ‘Strong And Healthy’

August 2, 2021 by Dodger Blue Leave a Comment

The Los Angeles Dodgers enjoyed one of their most lopsided wins of the season on Sunday, by providing plenty of run support for Julio Urias in a 13-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The left-hander tossed five shutout innings and collected seven strikeouts en route to his 13th victory of the year, which is tied for the Major League lead. “I felt good. I felt like all my pitches were working,” Urias said through an interpreter after the game.

“Obviously very grateful for the offense and what they did. A little troublesome to have your rhythm when you have long innings like the ones we had, but overall felt really good about the outing.”

Urias threw only 83 pitches in his start and easily could have gone another inning, but with the Dodgers holding a 7-0 lead at the time, manager Dave Roberts saw it as an opportunity to give Phil Bickford, David Price and Yefry Ramirez some work.

“He and Austin were great. The entire mix was good,” Roberts said of Urias’ performance. “Got him out after five, I just felt the run differential and wanted to get David an inning, Phil into the game. Yefry Ramirez, first time I met him was today.”

Urias’ five innings against the Diamondbacks was his shortest outing in over a month, but his 129.2 innings on the season represents a new career high and is closing in on being double his previous mark of 79.2 in 2019.

Despite seeing his workload increase this season, the 24-year-old feels healthy and is eager to continue contributing. “I feel good, feel strong. Going out there and doing whatever I can to help the team win and give them as much as I can,” Urias said.

“I’m looking forward to what comes next. I’m feeling strong and healthy, and just ready for whatever opportunity or role I’m in going forward.”

Urias reflects on journey to Majors

Now in his sixth MLB season, Urias reflected on his journey with the Dodgers thus far, which has included plenty of bumps along the way. “I think everything comes with patience,” he began.

“Early on in my career it was just being patient with the opportunities I was given. Obviously there were some ups and downs, injuries, things that happened along the way, but there’s always been a learning experience and just staying patient.”
