The Dodgers have been the best team in baseball this month and own the best record in the National League. What might be the most impressive part of LA’s season so far, is how well the rotation has performed despite missing key pieces at times. Walker Buehler hasn’t made a start since June 10th due to a forearm injury. Clayton Kershaw missed several weeks with a hip and back injury. Tony Gonsolin and Tyler Anderson have saved the Dodgers starting staff, and Andrew Heaney has an opportunity play savior in the coming weeks.
Prior to first pitch on Saturday, MLB.com’s Juan Toribio was one of the first to report that Heaney will be back in the rotation starting next week. As Toribio points out, the journeyman lefty’s return couldn’t come at a better time.
“Andrew Heaney will get a start for the Dodgers this upcoming week. They’ll go with a six-man rotation as they navigate through 18 games in a row.”
The Dodgers wrap up their four-game set agains the Giants on Sunday before hosting the Nationals for three. LA then hits the road, starting with a four-game series against the Rockies, then four games in San Francisco, and return home for a three-game weekend series against the Padres.
Heaney has had two extended stretches on the IL this season, but he’s been great when he’s healthy. He owns an impeccable 0.59 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP across three starts. His last start was on June 19th against the Cleveland Guardians.
Dodgers fans should find out sometime early next week when Heaney will be making his fourth start of the season.
