Wedge managed 10 big league seasons in Cleveland and Seattle. He’ll take over the Drillers helm in 2025 after Scott Hennessey moved up to manage Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The Dodgers on Wednesday hired former major league manager Eric Wedge to manage their Double-A affiliate Tulsa Drillers.
Wedge in Tulsa replaces Scott Hennessey, who managed the Drillers since 2017 before moving up a level in 2025 to manage Triple-A Oklahoma City, now known as the Comets.
In Wedge, the Dodgers are getting someone with a decade of big league managing experience. He was at the helm with Cleveland from 2003-09 and managed the Mariners from 2011-13. He won American League Manager of the Year Award in 2007 with Cleveland.
“We are excited to have someone with Eric’s experience as our new manager,” Drillers president Mike Melega said in a statement. “We were fortunate to have Henny as our manager for most of seven seasons, and now we welcome Eric who comes to Tulsa equipped with ten years of MLB managerial experience. It shows the commitment that the Dodgers have to player development, and the Drillers organization is a beneficiary of that commitment.”
Wedge, who turns 57 on Monday, was a catcher for nine seasons professionally, and saw parts of four seasons in the majors from 1991-94 with the Red Sox and Rockies. After his playing career ended in 1997, Wedge began managing in Cleveland’s minor league system, leading teams in Low-A, High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A before getting the call in Cleveland in 2003.
From 2020-22, Wedge was the head coach at his alma mater, Wichita State, and went 65-61 oover three seasons back in college.
