Players signed from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Venezuela, Japan, Colombia, Panama, and South Sudan
The Dodgers on Monday announced 29 international signings in their 2025 class. The list is headlined by Japanese sensation Roki Sasaki, whose $6.5 million deal was finalized last Wednesday. Six other countries are represented among the announced Dodgers signings as well.
The highest reported signing bonus aside from Sasaki was $365,000 for Panamanian pitcher Adrian Torres, reported by Francys Romero. Ben Badler at Baseball America noted, “For some scouts, he’s the best LHP in the 2025 international class.”
When the 2025 international signing period opened on January 15, the Dodgers’ bonus pool of $5,146,200 was tied for the lowest among MLB teams. But they traded two minor league outfielders to increase their spending capacity, sending Arnaldo Lantigua to the Reds for $1.5 million in bonus pool space, and adding another $1,456,600 in bonus pool space from the Phillies for Dylan Campbell.
After the Sasaki signing, that left the Dodgers with $1,602,800 to spend on other players. Any bonuses above $10,000 count against the pool.
In all, the Dodgers signed 12 players from Venezuela, eight from the Dominican Republic, four from Mexico, two from Colombia, and one each from Japan, Panama, and South Sudan. Joseph Deng Thon, a 17-year-old right-handed pitcher, is the first player from South Sudan to sign a professional contract with a major league team.
The 2025 international signing period runs through December 15.
