MINNEAPOLIS — Raisel Iglesias, who had been the bright star in an otherwise bleak bullpen, had a bad night.
The Angels’ closer entered looking for a six-out save with a one-run lead on Friday night, but he couldn’t get the job done.
The Minnesota Twins scored two runs to beat the Angels, 5-4, the first blown save suffered by Iglesias since June 11.
After the Angels took a 4-0 lead in the second inning, the offense shut down and the pitching allowed the Twins to chip away with single runs in the third, fifth and sixth.
Tony Watson issued, who had pitched a scoreless seventh, issued a leadoff walk to Miguel Sano in the eighth and was then replaced by Iglesias.
He got Brent Rooker on a flyout. Nick Gordon then poked a single into left, sending Sano to second.
Ryan Jeffers singled into left. Left fielder Juan Lagares’ throw home was wide of the plate, allowing Sano to score easily. Catcher Kurt Suzuki then made an errant throw back to third to try to get Rooker, who came home with the go-ahead run.
It spoiled a big night for Jack Mayfield, who had given the Angels a four-run lead in the second with his second homer in as many games. He also made three excellent defensive plays.
Angels starter Alex Cobb was charged with two runs (one earned) in five innings before he left with a blister on his right index finger. Cobb had dealt with blister issues in May.
