Jo Adell Set To Make His 2021 Angels Debut

Angels Will Let The Kids Play As They Look To Get Back In The Win Column Tuesday In Texas  

After a second consecutive loss last night, the Angels come into tonight’s game against the Texas Rangers with a record of 52-54 and 7.5 games behind the Oakland A’s for the second wild-card spot.

The young future of the Angels has begun to play right in front of our eyes as tonight will be no different. For the first time in their careers, Brandon Marsh and Jo Adell will share the big league outfield together in center and right respectively. Adell was in line to make his 2021 Angels debut yesterday, however, flight complications put a damper on the day delaying the much anticipated return.

In 73 games with Triple-A Salt Lake, Adell swung a .289 average, while mashing 23 home runs, 69 runs batted in and leading the team in doubles with 17.

Left-hander Jose Suarez will take to the hill for the Angels looking to get back on track after a tricky month of July that landed him a 1-3 record and 5.82 ERA in four starts. Prior to July, Suarez dominated June in six appearances, tallying a 1-1 record, 1.96 ERA and .209 BAA. Overall this season, the Venezuela native is 4-4 with a 3.45 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 13 games (four starts). He has yet to face the Rangers this season.

Opposing the Halos will be 30-year-old Jordan Lyles. The Hartsville, SC native will make his 22nd appearance (21st start) of the season. Posting a 5-7 record with a 5.04 ERA in 114.1 innings thus far in 2021, Lyles will be making his third start against the Angels this season. He suffered the loss on both occasions as the Angles offense scored early and often, just like they did on April 26 at Globe Life Field. They knocked out Lyles with two outs in the third inning after swinging for seven runs and 10 hits, in an eventual 9-4 Angels win.

Since the All-Star break, the Angels offense has been flat out anemic. Ranking 12th in the American League in batting average (.230) and scoring just 56 runs, which is tied for 13th with the New York Yankees. The Angels have scored five or more runs in only five of the last 17 games, which is the complete opposite of where the offense was early on in the season. Yes, major pieces of the batting order are missing like Trout, Rendon and Walsh, but with the starting pitching rotation making strides in the right direction slowly but surely, the offense tonight looks to turn the page and begin to rally in the American League wild card race.
